Democratic socialism is a political ideology emerging in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In contrast to communists, democratic socialists believed that a transition to a social democratic society could be achieved through evolutionary democratic means rather than through exclusively revolutionary means. They also rejected authoritarianism and totalitarianism in all its forms.
